There are many reasons why you may need to know if you have an active arrest warrant out on you and believe it or not, they are not all because you committed a crime. If you house was recently broken into or if you had something with your name involved stolen, you could easily have had a crime committed involving your name and not even know it. You will need to know what a warrant is and how you can find out if there is one out on you.

An active arrest warrant is documentation that will enable law enforcement to pick you up and charge you for a crime that you have supposedly committed. All charges are clearly stated on documentation. Law enforcement is well within their rights to pick you up anywhere you are found if a warrant has been issued for your arrest.

You can check for active arrest warrants a few different ways but whatever you do, don't just walk up to your local officer and ask him to check your name for this. If you do have something out on you, you are going to be on the hood of car getting handcuffed before you know it. While they are shaking their heads in amazement at your stupidity, you are going to be kicking yourself for not figuring out how to do this a better way.

You can always take a quick ride down to your local court house and do a manual check. Arrest warrants are public record, therefore anyone is entitled to see them. You will soon know if you have been charged with something locally. Hopefully, your search comes up empty, but you may also need to check out nationally.

If you want to do a national search, there are plenty of companies on the internet that can conduct a background check for you. There is usually a small fee attached to this, but you are better safe than sorry. These searches take very little time and will quickly scan all records to see if you have anything out in your name at the current time.

To make this clear, you may know that you have not committed a crime, that doesn't matter. Identity theft is an ever growing crime that literally affects millions of people each and every day. The ability to find out someone's information is not nearly as hard as it was years ago and than information is being exploited for various reasons.

Even if you have not been the victim of crime or been involved with people that you should not have been with, you are better off occasionally doing a search just to make sure that your name is indeed clear. You just never know when you are going to be compromised and fall victim to this sort of thing.
