Napster is a Music Mp3 subscription service that allows you to download and listen to all the music you want for a monthly fee. They have just recently added the ability to purchase mp3s for $0.99 each. Every file you purchase is high quality (256 kbps) and DRM free, which means there are no restriction on how and where you use your mp3s. Their service is compatiable with most major Portable Mp3 players including the iPod and Zune.

Napster To Go®
Napster To Go is our premier subscription, allowing you access to the full set of Napster features. As a Napster To Go subscriber, for $14.95 a month, you can:
- Search or browse the full Napster catalog and programmed content.
- Stream an unlimited number of full-length tracks through the Napster software or web service on your PC; or if you are using someone else's computer, access your collection and stream tracks from home.napster.com.
- Download and listen to an unlimited number of subscription tracks from Napster's catalog of over 6 million tracks on up to three computers. Napster subscription tracks are WMA encoded with a majority of those being at a bit rate of 192 kbps, providing you with an exceptional sounding music file (Napster Software Required).
- Transfer your downloaded subscription tracks to up to three compatible portable devices or mobile phones (Napster Software Required).
- Purchase and burn your favorite music to CD.
- Participate in Napster's message boards.
- Check out what other members have in their collections.
- Share music with your friends using the Share Music feature.
- Get subscriber only discounts on track purchases with Napster Track Packs.
Napster Subscription®
As a Napster subscriber, for $12.95 a month, you can enjoy access to all Napster features, except you must purchase tracks to transfer them to a portable device.
Napster light
Napster light members have full access to the Napster store but can only listen to 30sec clips of each track. The only time you pay is when you purchase a Mp3 or full Album.
Note: The iPod and Zune portiable devices are not compatiable with Napsters to go service, but is compatiable with the purchased Mp3s from thier catalog.
File types and Bitrates for you Audiofiles out there
Music downloaded to your computer as a Napster subscription member is in Windows Media Audio (.wma) format at 128 or 192 kbps stereo. They use Microsoft's Windows Media Digital Rights Management software to make sure all the music you have is fast, safe, and protected.
Music purchased from Napster is in MP3 format. Most MP3s available from Napster are encoded at a 256 kbps bitrate, however some are only available at 128 kbps. The bitrate is listed in the purchase confirmation window at the time of purchase. All MP3s sold by Napster are encoded and delivered by the record label holding the offical rights to distribute the corresponding artist's music library, which ensures that Napster offers the highest quality digital music files.
